Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson - born Jacqueline Luesby to Chris Watson and Jacqueline Luesby, two British lawyers, was born on the 8th of July, 1989 in Paris. At the age five she moved to Oxfordshire where she attended The Dragon School. Emma chose to be an actor at age six. Through the years she was enrolled in the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts part-time school. In the school, she was taught singing, dancing and acting. In a school play and a Stagecoach show, she took the lead at the age 10, and acted. The casting process began in 1999 in the production of Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the film adaptation of British author J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Emma was discovered as a casting agent by her Oxford drama teacher. David Heyman announced to Emma that, after auditioning for eight times, she and Rupert Grint were chosen as Hermione and Harry Potter. Emma's film debut was made with the release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2002). The film was also one of the top-rated films in 2001. Its opening weekday and weekend ticket sales were record-breaking. The film was praised by experts, and also by the performances of its three stars. The well-known British paper The Daily Telegraph called her performances admirable. Emma was later awarded five prizes to honor her role in the film.
